These are historic prints of Burnham-on-Crouch in Essex. All these antique pictures are from photographic postcards produced around the turn of the 19th/20th century. They are all from the collection of Michael Head, a well known postcard collector from Burnham-on-Crouch. Due to their great age, many of the old prints were badly faded or damaged but these images have all been carefully restored by Matt & Gloss photography, who are well known in the area for their antique photo restoration service.

All the pictures are of Burnham-on-Crouch in the late 19th to early 20th century. They show the Quay including the bandstand and the Burnham Yacht club before it became "Royal". No. 5 shows Burnham's first "Temperance restaurant"

Things have changed a little since those days. Although the clock tower is still there, the building is no longer a school and sheep don't graze in front of the church any more. Also, shopping was clearly a different experience in bygone years.

The images on this site are available in a variety of formats both digital and printed. There are also more pictures in this collection for you to choose from. The "sepia" colouring has been added after restoration and they are also available in their original black and white form.
